Tips and Policies

• Dictionaries are a separate installation from digitalCAT software.  After you’ve finished the installation program, return to the CD-ROM menu and select DICTIONARIES in the Professional Edition or THEORIES in the Student Edition from the list.  Install the appropriate dictionaries from the screens that follow.
• Through in-house testing, Stenovations has determined the following USB to Serial adapter brands WILL NOT work with digitalCAT:
• Belkin®
• Kool-Gear®
• Cypress®
• Keyspan®
• Radio Shack®
• Manhattan®

However, the same in-house testing has determined the following brands WILL work:

• Dynex®
• Deluo®
• I.O. Gear®
• If you plan to connect a judge or attorney to your realtime feed, you will not be able to use multiple USB to Serial adapters to do so. Stenovations recommends the Socket Mobile serial I/O PC card available from http://www.socketserial.com/.
• If you will be installing digitalCAT on Windows Vista® you must first disable UAC. This can be done by following the tutorial video, which can be found on the support page of the Stenovations website, or by contacting our support department.
• There is a collection of tutorial videos to help facilitate getting started with digitalCAT software. These videos are located on your CD as well as the support page of the Stenovations website.
• If you are using a Stenograph® writer, you MUST use the serial realtime cable with the purple plug. This cable must be requested from Stenograph® at the time of purchasing the writer.
• An audio converter for the ProCAT Stylus® writer is available by request.  You would need to speak with a digitalCAT support representative to acquire this utility.  Currently, the audio files from Stenograph® machines can not be imported into the digitalCAT software.
• Emergency weekend support is provided for digitalCAT purchase customers with a support contract or rental customers in good standing only.  LightSpeed and Scopist support is available 8 AM to 12 AM Eastern Time, Monday – Friday.  Student hours are 8 AM to 8 PM Eastern Time, Monday – Friday.
• Weekend support is limited to emergency situations only. Your name, contact phone number, and a description of your problem must be left on our pager system or you will not receive a call back. If the on-call technician determines your situation is an emergency you will be contacted within two hours.
• Rental authorizations must be done every 30-90 days. Purchase customers are allowed 365 days of authorization at a time.
• Scopist authorizations must be done at yearly intervals.
• Authorizations must now be requested from the support page of our website.  Monthly rental payments may also be made through our online store.  Please allow up to 24 hours for processing of authorization requests and 48 hours for processing rental payments.
• Lost a CD? Replacement installation CD-ROMs are available for a $25 fee for rentals in good standing, purchase customers with valid support contracts, scopists, and students. Replacement CD-ROMs are $50 for those without a support contract.
• PDF Functionality now available! Just run the file DCPDF.exe that is found on your digitalCAT CD-ROM or download the file from the support page of the Stenovations website.
• A utility is available on the downloads page of our website to assist in the restoration of Digital CAT back-up files in case of an emergency.
• STUDENTS: Some computers may produce an error message during the installation of the DigitalCAT software. Don’t panic! This is a false message. To work-around this issue, simply click through the errors until you receive the final message telling you (incorrectly) that installation has failed. It will then ask if you would like to rollback the changes. Say NO on this screen and the digitalCAT software is now SUCCESSFULLY installed. The program can then be run by going to your Start Menu followed by All Programs, digitalCAT, Transcript Editor.
