When I write realtime, about once or twice daily, my realtime feed just stops working. It could be when I'm writing, and then all of a sudden, nothing is showing on the screen. The audio keeps working, but no notes. And then about after a minute, it will start translating again, and the notes eventually catch up to my current position, but it misses a few things. There's gaps in my notes.

And it also happens sometimes when I'm not writing. If we take a break and then I try to start my realtime after a break, I can't get the realtime to start again. I get a message saying "writer could not be initialized." I can eventually get it to start working, but I have to tell it to translate over and over again, maybe about 4-5 times.

I recently bought a new computer and writer. I used to have a Smartwriter and Tosiba laptop with Windows XP. I never had this problem when I had this combination. But then I bought a Stentura 6000 and a Dell Laptop, also with Windows XP, and that's when I started having this problem. Does anyone have any suggestions on what could be causing this?

Thanks,
Tina

The "writer could not be initialized" notice means that your writer is not communicating with your software. There is a problem somewhere between your writer and your computer with the transmission of data. I suggest borrowing someone else's writer, leaving your whole setup the same other than that, and see if you still have the problem. If you do, keep replacing things down the line from there: RT connector, cable, serial port.

I still have my Smartwriter, so I'll go back to using that. Hopefully, I'll be able to figure it out by process of elimination.
